Jeremiah Ray is an interdisciplinary artist and writer living and working in the coastal Maine region. He holds a BFA from Maine College of Art and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
His visual artwork is much like his life insofar as it is a constant journey of exploration and discovery. In his formative years, Jeremiah traveled extensively, exploring languages and cultures as a means to fulfill a need for both adventure and as a means of further understanding himself. Art, though a lifelong passion, was not his primary choice upon entering university. Much like his traveling, Jeremiah explored music composition, English Literature, and German Language studies.
Jeremiah completed his MFA in studio art with one intention - to teach. His desire to do so was to assist others in their quest to find and hone their unique, personal language. He has always believed that art transcends oral communication. Discovering one's voice in an individual medium and utilizing it to articulate nonverbally is the greatest obstacle and the most potent ability. The desire to assist, guide, and witness others in their pursuit of this voice was the primary reason for continuing his education and obtaining an MFA.
