Jeremiah Ray is an interdisciplinary artist and writer based in coastal Maine. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
His visual artwork reflects his life as a continuous process of exploration and discovery. In his early years, Jeremiah traveled extensively, exploring languages and cultures to satisfy his sense of adventure and to gain a better understanding of himself.
Jeremiah earned his MFA in studio art with a single goal: to become a teacher. He wanted to help others discover and develop their own personal language. He has always believed that art surpasses words. Finding one's voice through a personal medium and expressing oneself nonverbally is both the greatest challenge and the greatest strength.
In 2016, Jeremiah was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer. This experience profoundly shifted his perspective on both visual and written art and strengthened his belief that they are truly universal languages. Burdened by the emotional weight of his diagnosis, Jeremiah became increasingly aware of how often he lacked the words to fully understand and articulate his experiences. During this difficult time, he focused on two fundamental questions: What does it mean to be vulnerable? And how can I communicate that to others?
With these questions guiding him, he embarked on a journey of healing and self-discovery.
